Blinds and Curtains

Window coverings really make a house feel like a home. They not only provide privacy but also give a cosy feel and let you express your own style.

The main types of window coverings are blinds and curtains. Some of our favourites include:
  • holland blinds
  • roman blinds
  • plantation shutters
  • timber venetian blinds
  • canvas awnings
What you choose will be influenced by your budget, your room sizes, your window sizes and of course your own personal taste.

How to choose a good blinds company

Word of mouth is a great way to find a reputable company but also looking online and reading reviews (on a third party website) can equally provide good insight into whether a certain business is right for you.

Specific things to consider when buying blinds and curtains include:

-what guarantee is offered, and does it cover the entire product?
-when is payment required? (100% upfront is uncommon and you should be wary)
-how long will installation take?
-are there other terms and conditions? (measuring fees are a sneaky add-on sometimes!)

We have had experience with a couple of blinds companies that we really like. So we are more than happy to feature them here. If you're in Melbourne check them out.

Royal Crest Blinds is based in south east Melbourne but can provide blinds along with their installation to any homes and businesses throughout town. If you're in Pakenham, Cranbourne or Clyde, give them a ring. But even if you're on the other side of the city, Ram and the team will still come over for a free measure and quote.

He has installed both curtains in the bedroom and canvas awnings on the balcony in my apartment. And has done some great work for some friends of mine helping out with new venetian blinds and holland blinds.

Blind Ambition is located in Melton in northern Melbourne and roman blinds, plantation shutters and drapes and soft furnishings. They are a family run manufacturer and retailer and Kate will visit your home to provide information on what will work best for your situation.

Tips to caring for your blinds and curtains

  • Blinds should be dusted and gently wiped on a monthly basis
  • When opening curtains, ensure clean hands otherwise you can soil them. Always use the cord
  • Drapes can be kept dust free by gentle vacuuming.
  • Do not use abrasive cleaners on shutters as it can damage them. Dust or wipe with damp cloth.
  • Immediately remove dirty marks on awnings by hosing with water.
