Furniture

Upgrading your furniture is a major part of home improvements. Many people think the structural changes are all it's about, but you can really improve the feel of your home with some great furniture changes.

Your home is a place where you can escape the stresses of everyday life. So it needs to be decked out accordingly. Most people choose furniture that fits a certain colour scheme or style, which while great, shouldn't be the top priority.

Furniture that is comfortable and functional will go a long way, for both your health and your overall happiness. Some benefits of the right furniture include:
  • reduces muscular aches and pains
  • improves your memory (we're talking having a quality bed and getting a good nights sleep)
  • improves your food and aids self-satisfaction

Furniture has a long history

The "invention" of furniture goes back as far as 3000BC. People in the Neolithic Period carved artwork into dressers that were kept near the entrance of the home and were pleasant to look at. They also carved stones into cupboards for the purpose of storage.

We've come a long way since then from Classical (in Ancient Egypt and Greece) to 19th Century (with a gothic style), to Modernism (with simple, sleek, artistic designs) to Contemporary.

The most important furniture in your home

Despite it becoming considered a bit of an after-thought in homes these days, the dining table is truly the most important item in a home. Many new townhouses and apartments are being built without a dining room, but we believe this trend will be reversed, and the dining table will reach its former glory!

Dining tables are the centre piece of a home, a large piece of furniture that is multi-functional. People eat on it, sit and chat, children do homework on it, jigsaw puzzles are enjoyed it on, the list is endless.

In a society growing less sociable, ironically thanks to social media, we believe that people will soon realise the need to reconnect in person and continue strong "real" relationships. Dinner parties will make a resurgence in popularity and families will again have wholesome meals and conversations together, instead of scoffing down microwaved dinners on the couch.

Whatever the direction of furniture, it will always be an integral part of a home. And thus, must be considered a crucial part of the home improvement process.
